Welcome to my site....through these pages I hope to give you some enjoyment and perhaps inspiration to try digital imaging for yourself.
I am an English digital artist, illustrator, cartoonist and photographer. My interest lies primarily with creating artistic images from photographs, although I enjoy 'straight' photography as well.
I used to be a pastel artist, painting landscapes and portraits, but now my 'canvas' is a computer screen and my 'brush', a digital pen....
A Little About The Artist....
In my youth I used to love drawing and my favourite subject at school was Art. In my teenage years, (quite a while ago!), I studied at the Gt Yarmouth College of Art & Design. After the birth of my second child, I was inspired to begin pastel 'painting' and I joined the Gt Yarmouth Guild of Artists and Craftsmen after I had completed a few paintings. I exhibited , sold, and received further commissions for paintings from then on.
About six years ago, my husband bought a Sony Mavica Digital camera, together with Corel Photo-Paint/Draw 8, and after a hesitant start, I was soon 'hooked' on digital imaging. I began editing my photographs, and progressed to making 'comp' or composite images. From then on, I produced a series of images of Fairies, Dragons, Mystical and Spiritual subjects. The next step was to make a website to share my work with others, and here I am.........now on my third website since then. :-)
About November 2000, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a group of very talented people, known as the Internet Digital Imaging Group, who were a source of inspiration and encouragement. E-mails were sent and received every day with images attached.
It is rare for a day to pass where I do not do any 'imaging' at all. I now work with Photoshop and use other imaging software for different effects etc. The 'magic' of a digital pen suits my impulsive nature and there is forever more and more to learn and discover about the digital art.
Some people think that digital imaging merely involves pushing buttons to obtain an instant effect, but I can assure them, the way I work involves a lot more than that. Techniques, enhancement and manipulation are learned through a process of experimentation, mistakes, and many many hours of hard work.... that is, unless you are lucky enough to have a 'Digital Tutor' !
I like to be known as a Digital Artist as many of my fantasy pictures are composed from lots of pure and careful 'brushwork', meticulously painting in lines, forms, colours and blending to create the desired image. I have produced hundreds of images over the years, but just show you here some of my favourite ones.
My work has been featured in top Digital magazines and newspapers. It is also displayed on several websites around the world and I have had many kind comments on them, for which I am grateful. In addition to my imaging, I welcome commissioned work as well.
Soon after joining IDIG, we purchased a Nikon Coolpix 990, and since then I've invested in and use a variety of digital imaging software. The camera I use now is a Digital SLR, a Canon EOS D60, with four interchangeable lenses for a variety of work.
In February 2003 I sadly said 'Goodbye' to IDIG as a Group, and founded another Imaging Group, which is intentionally smaller in total members and not so demanding on my time. This Group is called 'GIDDY' and is going strong. The website can be seen here:
If you enjoy taking photographs........and there is 'no time like the present' - then have a go at this enjoyable pastime....the CF Cards, SD Cards, Memory Sticks and Microdrives of today that replace 'wet' film of yesterday bring photography into a new era. In a matter of minutes one can shoot a photograph and have it displayed on screen, without fear of wasting 'film' or waiting to have it processed. I can assure you, you will be delighted at what you can achieve !
